Fifteen years after opening our doors, we’re celebrating a remarkable journey that has seen Close House Golf Club grow into one of the North East’s leading golf destinations.
From championship golf and world-class professionals to a thriving membership, luxury accommodation and our famous warm Geordie welcome, we’ve continued to evolve while staying true to our original vision – to create a golf club that delivers an exceptional experience both on and off the course.
At the heart of Close House are our Lee Westwood Colt and Filly courses, offering two distinctive golf experiences in the North East.
Our Colt Course was designed by Scott Macpherson in the style of legendary golf course architect Harry Colt and has since been refined in collaboration with our Attached Tour Professional, Lee Westwood.
Lee has been part of the Close House story since 2012, bringing his experience at the highest level of professional golf to the club. His connection with the estate has helped shape the Colt Course and its identity as one of the standout championship golf courses in the North East.
Alongside the Colt, our Filly Course provides a different test through the Northumberland countryside, giving our members and visitors the opportunity to experience two very different courses in one destination.
The quality of our golf has seen us welcome some of the biggest events in the sport, including the British Masters in 2017 and 2020, the International Series England in 2023, three EuroPro Tour events and the European Tour PGA Seniors Championship.
These tournaments have brought some of the world’s best players to Northumberland and helped put Close House firmly on the map as a championship golf venue.
While championship golf has played an important role in our story, the Close House experience goes far beyond our courses.
With around 800 members and a calendar featuring more than 50 dedicated events each year, we’ve created a club with a strong social and community feel alongside our competitive golf programme.
From club competitions and team events to family days, social occasions and opportunities to play with friends, there is always something happening at Close House.
That member-first approach was recognised at the Golf Course Awards 2025, where we were highly commended in the Members’ Club of the Year category.
For us, recognition like this reflects what matters most – creating a club where our members feel welcome, connected and proud to be part of Close House.
Developing the next generation of golfers has also been an important part of our journey.
In 2024, we were named Junior Golf Programme of the Year, recognising our commitment to introducing young people to the game and creating opportunities for them to develop their skills.
Through initiatives including the PING Junior Masters and free schools coaching programmes, we continue to support junior golf and make the game more accessible to young people across the North East.
Our commitment to developing talent also extends to the professional game. Alongside Lee Westwood, we have supported Jess Baker, winner of the 2022 Women’s Amateur Championship and a Ladies European Tour player.
Over the past 15 years, we’ve grown into a destination that brings together golf, hospitality and luxury accommodation on one Northumberland estate.
Our on-site accommodation gives visiting golfers the opportunity to stay just moments from our courses, while the wider estate provides a setting for golf breaks, corporate events, social occasions and weekends away in the North East.
Our practice and coaching facilities have also continued to develop. A £500,000 extension to our driving range has expanded the facilities available to members, visitors and golfers looking to improve their game.
Investment has always been central to our approach, and we’ll continue to look at how we can improve the experience for everyone who visits Close House.
As we celebrate 15 years, our story is far from finished.
Further investment and new developments will continue to shape the estate, including the arrival of Freyja, a new restaurant led by Michelin-starred chef Alex Nietosvuori, scheduled to open in 2027.
It’s another step in the evolution of Close House and our ambition to offer a complete destination experience in the North East.
Fifteen years after opening our doors, we remain focused on the same principles that have shaped Close House from the beginning: exceptional golf, genuine hospitality, continual investment and a warm North East welcome.
Whether you’re playing the Colt or Filly, staying with us for a golf break, visiting for a corporate golf day or simply spending time with friends and family, we want every visit to feel like a Close House experience.
15 years in. And we’re only just getting started.
