It is an exceptional recognition of Sally’s coaching expertise, dedication and continued commitment to developing golfers of all ages and abilities.
Sally has been part of the Close House team since 2010, joining us as a newly qualified PGA Professional when the Golf Academy first opened its doors. Sixteen years later, she remains an important part of our coaching team and continues to make a significant contribution to golf at Close House and across the wider region.
Sally’s journey in golf began long before she joined Close House.
Growing up in Shropshire, Sally represented England Schools and the England Girls U18 team before taking her golf to the United States, where she spent four years at Missouri State University on a golf scholarship.
During her time there, Sally rewrote the university’s record books, breaking season scoring records and enjoying an outstanding senior year that saw her named both Female Athlete of the Year and Conference Golfer of the Year.
After completing her PGA training in Shropshire, Sally joined Close House in 2010 and has spent the years since building an impressive career in coaching.
Her expertise was recognised in 2023 when she was awarded PGA Fellow Professional status, before going on to be named PGA Female Coach of the Year.
Now, her latest achievement sees Sally recognised as an Advanced Fellow Coach, placing her among an elite group of PGA coaches. There are currently only around 100 Fellow Coaches within the PGA, highlighting just how significant this latest recognition is.
For Sally, coaching has always been about more than simply improving someone’s golf swing.
She plays an important role in developing the next generation of golfers and is passionate about creating opportunities for women and girls to enjoy and progress in the game.
At Close House, Sally coaches the Northumberland County Girls team and plays an active role in England Golf’s Girls Golf Rocks programme, helping to introduce and inspire more young girls to golf.
She is also certified through the Titleist Performance Institute, adding another dimension to her coaching and helping her take a wider approach to player development.
Her commitment to supporting women and girls in golf also extends beyond the coaching bay. In 2024, Sally was elected to the WPGA Committee, where she works to create more opportunities for women and girls within the sport.
She also contributes to the PGA Junior Advisory Board, helping to support the development of resources for PGA Professionals working with junior golfers.
Sally’s latest recognition is something we are incredibly proud of.
Since joining Close House in 2010, she has helped thousands of golfers improve their game, from complete beginners taking their first steps into golf to experienced players looking to take their game to the next level.
Her knowledge, experience and passion for coaching have made her a hugely valued member of our team, and her work continues to have an impact both here at Close House and across the wider golfing community.
Being recognised as an Advanced Fellow Coach by the PGA is a fitting reflection of the standards Sally has set throughout her career.
It is also recognition of the commitment she continues to show to her players, her fellow PGA Professionals and the development of golf.
Congratulations, Sally, on this fantastic and thoroughly deserved achievement.
