Tim Cockill

Tim has been a dedicated performance coach for Northumbria University since 2020, bringing a wealth of coaching knowledge and experience to the Close House PGA team since 2012. As a PGA Accredited certified coach, Tim has taught players of all ages and abilities since 2010. During his time at Northumbria University, where he received a golf scholarship, he not only played in a title-winning university team but also competed in the British University Championships before turning professional.

Tim’s coaching accolades include working with the Northumberland Academy County Boys and the Royal Artillery British Army teams. He serves as the lead coach for both the Northumbria University First Team and the Elite Performer Programme for golf scholars at Thorpe Academy. Additionally, he plays a pivotal role in the highly successful kids’ camps held every school holiday, where hundreds of children at all skill levels participate, fostering growth from grassroots to advanced play. Tim is also TrackMan Level 2 Certified.

At Close House, Tim leads engaging group and individual coaching sessions and is heavily involved with the junior coaching programme. His coaching philosophy emphasises that “there is no single ideal golf swing, whatever level you play at. Impact and resulting ball flight are key, so I work with advanced technologies (TrackMan and SAM PuttLab) to analyse performance using statistics to achieve results.”
